This large and smart establishment dates from 1271. It was originally a couple of cottages, one of which was used as a beer house. It was considerably extended in the 1950s, including using materials originally from the Houses of Parliament and the old Coventry Cathedral. There are a number of attractive areas all served from a long central bar and outside is a terraced garden. Good food is served each day from 12-9 in both the restaurant and the bar. There is also a carvery open from 12-3 (Monday to Saturday), 11:30-4 (Saturday) and 11:30-8 (Sunday). The pub is also open for breakfast each day from 8am. A major refurbishment in May 2011 saw the creation of a boutique hotel on site with en-suite rooms. The guest ale usually comes from one of the larger national brewers. Currently closed - according to the pub "the refurbishment won't be completed in 2022 and looking more likely to be completed end of 2023/Early 2024."
