Pub Photo

This was the last pub ever built by Friary Meux. It was built on the site of an old 17th century Mellersh & Neale pub that required repair work, and this being 1960, it was decided that a modern pub would be better. The Spotted Cow was an ugly pub, with a very angular facade and a green roof. There were two bars, separated by a lobby, which had an off-sales window in it. The front of each bar had real cowhide on it, and behind the bar were fake barrel fronts adverting the delights of such beers as Friary Meux Treble Gold. The pub was bought by Greene King in 1990, and eventually became rather run down. It closed in the late 1990s and was demolished to make way for housing. A sad end to what had been a decent little local.
