Brewing commenced in 1996 at the Plough, originally only in nine-gallon batches on home-made equipment. A new two-barrel plant was installed in 2001. The beers are only on sale at the Plough. The pub and brewery had new owners in 2015 and the previous beers (Beautiful South and Tallywhacker) were discontinued and Crooked Furrow reformulated with more hops used. Beautiful South was named after a visit to the Plough by former Beautiful South member Paul Heaton, who performed here in 2010. Smiler's Happiness was named after former local resident and beer drinker John "Smiler" Steele. Crooked Furrow is brewed all year round with the other two available seasonally (Smiler's Happiness Summer and Surrey Puma winter).
