Unusually for Surrey, the Valley was a Whitbread pub. It even made the Good Beer Guide from 1982 to 1984 when it was enticingly described as an "expensive steakhouse". Originally the pub was the Valley Hotel and was a Trust House with nine bedrooms and an assembly room with a dance floor, which accommodated 100 people. By 1986 part of the pub was converted into a Pizza Hut, and the bar became a noisy place with video screens around the walls. The pub became a full part of the pizza restaurant in the late 1980s.
